My provider preformed bilateral Marsupialization of Bartholin gland. I submitted the code 56440 with 50 modifier for bilateral and the insurance carrier, BCBS TN, has rejected the claim and incorrect codes. Are there any other ways to bill this?Any help is much appreciated

CPT 56440 does not allow a mod 50. If there was significant extra work, you could try with a mod 22. That is the correct CPT assuming that is what the op note describes.

Thank you, I was hoping we would be able to bill for physician doing both sides. The op note reads " The patient was placed in the high lithotomy in Trendelenberg. Patient on palpation was noted to have some Bartholin gland cyst on the right and left side. We were able to bring the bartholin cyst just inside the squamous area. A stab wound was made with an 11-blade into the right Bartholin gland cyst. Clear mucous was noted coming from the cyst. The cyst wall was sutured to the outer vulvovaginal area using 2-0 vicryl in interrupted fashion. Excellent hemostasis was noted. Attention was then turned to the Left side and the same procedure was preformed. Clear mucous was noted from , again the cyst wall was sutured to the outside of the tissue. "
