We are an independent lab (POS 81) but we employ a physician who is performing doctor ordered consultations (80500/80502). Medicare required me to obtain a new NPI number for the lab so the doctor could assign his benefits to that NPI (set up as a group rather than lab). My question is, is my POS still an 81 or is it now an 11?
On a side note: Labs are now required to send all billing directly to the BCBS state where the sample WAS DRAWN. As I bill for these MD consult services, they are saying "POS = lab but service = professional" so the state and traditional Bluecard just push the claim back and forth between them.
Bluecard says no because POS = lab
State says no because professional service is being billed, which would go to Bluecard.
AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH
Please help!
