Wiki MD billing for mental health providers services

We have a group practice that also has a mental health provider. The mental health provider has on a number of occasions been called into an exam room during a crisis to meet with the patient in what she calls a "warm hand off." One of our insurance carriers said that it would be OK for the MD to bill a higher level as appropriate and not have the mental health provider bill out her services. Is this appropriate? I am under the standing that the mental health provider has to bill under her own name. Any information would be greatly appreciated - thank you!
