In the MDM section where does two acute problems fall when you have an expanded problem focus history and a detailed exam......this would be acute sinusitis and upper respiratory. Scripts where written.

The problem points for self-limited is - 1
est chronic, controlled - 1
est chronic, uncontrolled 2
New no further w/u - 3

would 2 acute illness be two New with no further w/u = 6 ?

I think this is a 99214, but want to know what the problem points would be?

I am confused on acute illness.

thanks, J

First of all, you can only count one new problem/no additional work up = 3 points. Then it is going to depend on amount and complexity of data and the risk...if you have 3 in problem status and an Rx provided (prescription drug management) in risk, you'd be looking at moderate complexity MDM.
