I'm curious to see what other family practice office's 90 days or greater a/r percentage is for insurance balances. I would love a 0% myself for my office but realistically we all know that will never happen. I don't know if ours of 11-12% is way too high or about average with other offices. Can anyone out there help me out please. Thanks.

I was once trained that collecting 95% within 90 days was a sort of national benchmark for medical AR quality. But it's also important to note that there can be a lot of variation depending on the type of practice. When I managed billing for a small dermatology office, the types of claims we billed rarely had denials due to things like medical necessity or authorization issues, so we were able to keep the over 90 AR below 2%. But if you're working with something like work comp claims or complex surgeries that require review, it can easily inflate and age the AR.
