Can CMA's perform a Medicare Annual Wellness Visit?

According to Medicare, the AWV must be furnished by a licensed health professional. Some MACs allow for staff members other than the physician to complete the visits. This includes health educators, registered dietitians, nutrition professionals, or other licensed practitioners.
The professional who may perform the AWV depends on the MAC. Some Medicare MACs have verified that an RN or LPN can perform the entire AWV (instead of a physician.)
Others who don't allow the RN or LPN to perform the entire visit do find it acceptable for the RN, LPN or Medical Assistant to complete the paperwork portion (99% of the visit) before the physician visits with the patient.
