Hi, I code for an OBGYN office. Would like to know if anyone out there knows if it is appropriate for an OBGYN doctor to use ICD9 codes from Chapter 5 (Mental Disorders). Or is this code strictly for use by a Phychiatrist?
 
They are not strictly for psychiatrists but be certain the patient has the mental diagnosis you are coding and not just an emotional state symptom you can find in 799.xx codes.
