I would like to know what others are billing for the administration of Mesna. The code J9209 is classified as a chemo drug according to the HCPCS book, however, Mesna is not a chemo drug and is given more as a preventative measure when given with ifosfamide and high doses of cytoxan. Would this be classified as therapeutic rather than chemo? Thanks for your help.
 
We bill it theraputic b/c like you said it is for support and theraputic use to prevent hemorrhatic cystitis when Ifex is given-not for the actual cancer cells.
