I am new to the world of Behavioral Health billing. I'm currently reviewing rejections related to CSTAR/ASAM visits billed to MO Healthnet. I was surprised to see that drug dependence w/ withdrawal (i.e. F15.23, Other stimulant dependence with withdrawal; F12.23, Cannabis dependence with withdrawal; F10.23, Alcohol dependence with withdrawal, uncomplicated) is not a covered diagnosis per the MO Healthnet CSTAR/ASAM Provider Manual (see attached). How are others handling these rejections?
Here are some options I've considered:
1. Code as "abuse with withdrawal," which is a covered diagnosis.
2. Code as "dependence uncomplicated," which is a covered diagnosis.
3. Code as "abuse with withdrawal" and "dependence uncomplicated."
Obviously, none of these are great options. I'm curious to hear what others are doing. I'm also open to other suggestions. Thanks for your help!
