Help! I work in an acute care hospital that performs ASU colonoscopies. When a colonoscopy is discontinued because of large amount of stool, do I apply a 52 modifier or a 73-74?

Thank you!

I use to bill for the professional portion of the colonoscopies and when a procedure was terminated because of fecal impaction I used mod 52. Im assuming since you are billing from facility you would use 73 or 74. (before anesthesia or after anesthesia). in your case I would use 74. I have never personally billed for an acute care hospital before....but based on the definitions I think I am correct:D

Good Luck
