Do you all append the modifier 22 for atrial appendage closure during a CABG?
According to STS we should be doing that.
What has your experience with payment or denials with the 22 for atrial appendage closure?

Hello~Please note below from STS

If the procedure is performed for the prevention of atrial fibrillation, it does not meet medical necessity for Medicare and should not be reported.

If it is done for the treatment of chronic atrial fibrillation, then medical necessity would be met and should be reported considering the criteria outlined above.
Note that coverage of the procedure will be determined and will vary by payer.
