We started a procedure on a patient - once we were at the surgical site due to the anatomy we had to stop the procedure thus we used Modifier 53. Now one month later the patient is having a different procedure for the same condition just a different approach. What modifier do I need to use? Does the fact of having added the 53 to the first procedure change the global period associated with the filed procedure code?

I do not believe that mod-53 would change the global period. If you're still with the global period of the first procedure, then you would need to use a mod-58 on the second one.
