We have a patient who was previously scheduled for surgery on Nov 28th. The patient's condition became acute, was admitted on Nov 10th, our physician consulted with the patient in the hospital, and decided to perform the surgery the next day on Nov 11th instead. Does Mod 57 apply here, because the "new" decision for surgery was emergent, or because the physician had already planned on performing this surgery at a later date, does that inpatient consult count as part of the surgical package? My colleague and I are going back and forth on this one, any assistance anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated.
