Our physician saw a Medicare patient in a nursing home and coded the visit as 99309 and then she saw the same patient later in the day (the patient was not feeling well and wanted to doctor to come back after she had completed her rounds). She coded that visit as 99309 as well. If I add modifier 76 to one of the visits will Medicare pay both? Do I add the modifier to both visits? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
