Wiki Modifier 80 & 81

If you have a NP or PA as the surgeon assist- do you use Mod 80 or 81? And why?

For an NP or PA assisting at surgery, the correct modifier should be AS. I think there are a few payers out there that don't want AS and may require 80 or 81 instead, but beyond that, I don't know of a situation where you'd use one of those modifiers if it is not a physician performing the assist.
