I have someone telling me that GY and GX modifier's are for Medicare only. I don't see that in the descriptions.

Does anyone have any information regarding this issue?

Thanks!

The descriptions would indicate that they are not medicare only, but a lot of payers do not recognize them in their payment systems. For example, BCBS of Michigan recognizes GY but not GX.
It is a good idea to check with the plan to see if they recoginze the modifier. One reason they may not is that they do not have any requirement that the patient be notified of a non payable service prior to performance.
