I have the same question to monitoring for reactions to injections in two seperate senerios:
1. If the medication is white bagged (sent directly to us from a specialty pharmacy) or brown bagged (sent to the patient at their home to be brought to us for admin) and we than have to watch a patient for a reaction, what can I bill for? I get the injection code...but can I bill for anything else? In this case we make no money on the drug and a small amount on the injection and lose time monitoring that patient. Even if it is 15 minutes we are already losing on this patient.
2. I have an injection (we have bought and billed for this) where we must monitor the patient for 3 hours after the injection tying up an infusion chair that I could be putting to work for another patient....is there anything I can do to bill for this extended time.
