A patient has an MRA & MRV ordered, the tech marks both and the radiologist dictates a separate report for the MRA & the MRV. The code is 70544, can I bill it twice with a 59 modifier for the second one?

I don't believe that you can. It is actually the same exam and the radiologist can see both the arteries and veins during one exam so the insurance would deny it as a duplicate even with documentation because there would be no need for a second exam.

I agree. I would only use the code once. I believe, even with modifier 59 Medicare would still deny.
Thanks, our outsource coding group coded it as two exams and I needed to be sure that it was only one.
