Our organization has been having an issue with MUE edits for repeat diagnostic mammos, when performed on the same date of service in conjunction with guided ultrasound and biopsy. What are other facilities doing in this case with the second, denied procedure for Medicare patients? Is there a compliance issue with deleting that second procedure, rather than billing it, getting a denial and then writing it off? Our facility has already determined that this is a separate procedure and not part of that biopsy, so our question is how do we avoid the denial on the patient's claim.
