Hi Everyone,

In the Initial Inpatient Evaluation, the patient has 5 new problems, but none of which the attending did ANY work-up. So, my question is, is this only worth 3 points in regards to MDM (new problem w/ no work up, max 1)? It doesn't seem as if I can put them down under established, because well it is an initial visit so the problem are all new.

Thank you for your help.

Hello,

Going by my Medicare intermediary Noridian, for a new problem no addtional work up planned, the physician can only get 3 points. On my score sheet it shows:

New problem with additional work up planned: 4 points
New porblem with no additonal work up planned: 3 points (Max)

I hope this helps? Anyone else?
:)
