Wiki Multiple POS ?

Are you able to bill multiple places of services on a claim? I have a patient that was in the hospital a total of 5 days. According to the hospital records, the first 2 days were considered outpatient and then based on medical necessity and medical review, day 3 they were able to be classified as inpatient. So would I bill out an initial observation care and subsequent observation with POS 22 and then 3 subsequent inpatient with POS 21? I was not aware that a patient could be classified 2 different ways during the same stay. Any help or links to info on this would be greatly appreciated!

It is my understanding if the patient is in the hospital over a 24 hour period then it is considered inpatient.

Observation or inpatient status is based on physician order. The hospital cannot change the patient stays without a written order in the chart.
