Can you charge multiple E&M ED Level charges if an encounter spans multiple days (99281-99285)? If so, could someone provide a source for reference material saying this is allowed?

We would need more information to help you. This is not a typical scenario as you have it explained. Normally you would only see one ED charge by a single provider unless someone was a frequent flyer and repeatedly presents after being discharged multiple days in a row. Even in that case, I think some places roll it up into one ED if it is all on the same date. However, what you are describing is not that. If multiple providers of different specialties provide care we would expect to see multiple ED E/M, one for each provider. If the care spans two calendar dates, by a single provider, you would roll it up into the one ED charge if the patient was truly ED only and was not admitted to observation or IP. For example, they present at 11pm one day and are D/C the next morning at 6am. If they are admitted there are different rules depending on the scenario.

Most of the MACS have Q&A for ED services. Example: https://www.ngsmedicare.com/web/ngs...eId=1475332&lob=96664&state=97178&rgion=93623
