Hi, I got my CPC-A 10 years ago. After that, I tried to find a job, but didn't get any. Then I started working as a post office clerk. I left that job during COVID. Since then, I've been trying to find a job in hospitals and clinics. I am looking for an entry-level position in a hospital to gain experience. But no luck. I don't have the money to go back to school again. I'm not sure if this is worth pursuing another certificate without any real-life job experience. I want to start my career in the medical field. And I'm applying to every job, even in food service areas. Can I get any job with an almost ten-year-old certificate in CPC-A without any experience?
I totally hear you—and you're definitely not alone. So many new coders with CPC-A are in the same boat: trained, certified, and eager to work, but stuck in that frustrating loop where every job seems to require “experience.” I have been working with a community college in the area for internship opportunities for Medical Biller/Coder programs, when one of the ladies I know personally reached out to me with the same challenge like you are having. I hired her, trained her and mentored her all the way. The struggle is real.
