I am new to billing ENT procedures and have a bilateral 21320 that was done in the providers office - can the provider bill for the drugs used during the procedure for the local anesthesia (used 2% Xylocaine with epinephrine 1:1000,000)? Also, if the procedure (21320) was done bilaterally, can I assume that you bill the procedure twice with a 51 on the second? (I see that this procedure does not take a 50)

CPT 21320 cannot be billed bilaterally and no, you cannot bill for the drugs used in an office procedure; med supplies are part of the physician's overhead and are factored into the procedures RVU, so, a physician will get paid a higher rate when this type of procedure is performed in their office as opposed to a facility OR...
