I work for an office that DO NOT accept Medicaid. Most of our patients have both Medicare and Medicaid. When a payment is received from Medicaid leaving a small balance due for patient responsibility, do I write that amount off or bill the patient?

Hi Ellistneal
I d write it off if patient s has both payers been billed of Medicare and Medicaid. Usually after Medicaid has paid or filed, adjust it off. Also the payer contract and EOB usually states if send to patient or adjust off. Read it again just to be sure or talk to your supervisor to ensure doing the right process.

However, are you aware if Medicare patient signs a ABN for service NOT covered you can t bill them
I hope helped you
