I'm torn on this one. We have a patient that was originally seen on the 13th, they decided to do a biopsy then based on the results go forward with additional surgery. The biopsy was done on the 18th.They came back on the 25th to get the results, the doctor spent 40 minutes discussing the results and giving surgical options. Patient leaves with out scheduling surgery.
The biopsy has a 10 day global period so I am thinking this should be a 99024. On the other hand he spent all this time discussing treatment options for cancer which is not included in the global and with that time it would be a 99215.
The provider went somewhere in the middle, not sure why, and charge 99213 but it is not supported by elements and as I mentioned based on time this is a 99215.
I am leaning more towards the 99215 but it just isn't sitting well with me so I would really appreciate other thoughts.
The patient did end up having additional surgery 2 weeks later.
