Can you assign 162.9 malignant neoplasm of lung when it was not proven by a biopsy?
A patient could not tolerate the biopsy procedure and an xray shows a growing nodule in the patient's lung. The x-ray reports pleural effusion, atelectasis and a suspicious nodule.
Would love to hear from you guys!

no you would have to post as uncertain behavior.

you cannot use uncertain behavior as that dx requires a path report that shows the pathologist has rendered a diagnosis of uncertain behavior. You can code for lung mass unless the physician states it is a tumor then you can code unspecified neoplasm.
