Our anesthesiologists will do a nerve block in pre-op of the orthopedic surgeon requests it. The request must be verbal because the surgeon's staff does not list the Cpt code on the order for surgery. Are we allowed to add the nerve block if it is not listed on the surgery order? The anesthesiologist documents the procedure. Several insurance companies are wanting an authorization for the nerve block and have denied the charge if it is not on the surgery order. The nerve blocks we see are Femoral 64447 and Brachial 64415.
