If during cervical surgery a neuro surgeon wants neuro monitoring performed but the neuro physiologist is performing this service @ a remote location, wouldn't we need the NPI for that remote office because thats where all of the equipment is set-up for the monitoring? some of the codes used would be 95925, 95926, 95861, 95920 all professional component. We wouldn't use the hospital as pos, correct? This is what I was taught but someone else in office thought that we wouldn't need to bill the monitoring services apart from the hospital.

Hi Shiela,

Intraoperative monitoring if done by neurophysiologist shoudl be coded and billed by him. The surgeon cannot bill it as he didn't perform the professional component. If the neurophysiologist is billing then yes he needs to use hospital as POS.
Hope this helps.
