I'm hoping someone that codes Neurology can clear something up for me.

When a physician does the testing and interpretation for an EMG, do you append a -26 modifier. The question sounds easy enough but in the CPT Guidelines for Neurology, it states EMG, NCV and MEG services include recording, interpretation by a physician and report. For interpretation only, use modifier 26. I just want to be sure I'm interpretting this correctly. I would appreciate anyone's advise or comments!! Thank you.

If the test is done by the Neurologists equipment and he interprets it then you would only bill the cpt. If say it is done in the hospital using there equipment and staff then you would have only done the interpret and you would then bill with the 26 modifier
