I was recently assigned to do Opthalmology coding and I feel very lost. We are a small rural healthcare and there has not been a provider here for several years so I have no one to really help me figure this out. None of our coders have ever done this specialty. Does anyone know of a course online that can teach me about Opthalmology coding? I only found two webinars from AAPC in the on demand ones but I need more. Thanks!

The American Academy of Ophthalmology has an open book course that you can take that should help with coding. I would obtain all of the modules (retina only if you will be coding many retinal visits) and even if you choose not to obtain the OCS credential, you will be further along with Ophthalmology coding.

Hope this helps!
