We are trying to correct 2008 Medicaid claims prior to timely filing. They were billed with a 99431 dx 763.4 (day 1) and 99433 dx V30.01 for 4 days. Medicaid is denying the 99433 due dx. What is the appropriate way to code these?

Why was a "normal" newborn in hospital 5 days?

Why was a "normal" newborn in hospital for 5 days?

I'm thinking you need a better diagnosis for your subsequent hospital days, and that you MAY need to use 99231-99233 codes (99238 or 99239 for discharge day)

Hope that helps.
