Does anyone know how to code a finding of blood in the cul-de-sac during a lap cauterization of endometrosis? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

ICD: Endometriosis /cul-de-sac(Douglas)-617.3

I'll assign 617.3- Endometriosis / Cul-de-sac

Per Physician's definitive DX, (endometriosis) it represents the 'stage'of endometriosis cul-de-sac spread,
the most common site of spread ( peritoneum(pelvic)/parametrium).
It implies endometriosis implant/lesion in the cul-de-sac. (blood in cul-de-sac= endometrial cells outside the uterus=aberrant uterine tissue )

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Alternative:
Ectopic/ endometrium/ culdesac- 617.3 (aberrant uterine tissue) Pls look up the definition given under 617.3.

NOTE: Make sure there is NO surgical trauma.

Thanks
