Wiki new coder needs help with consults vs evaluation

ER doctor requests for an orthopedic surgeon evaluate a patient for an ankle fracture. The orthopedic schedules surgery the following day. I am thinking that this would not qualify as a consult because the orthopedic surgeon follows through with surgery and care of the patient.

Need other's opinions. Thanks for any help.
 
Does it state anywhere in the ER dr's note requesting consult from Ortho? If it does not state that somewhere or asks for the ortho doctors opinion, then you would be right no consult code. Hope the helps a little.

In addition to Kelsey, if the proper documentation is there for the consult, you would code the consult and append modifier 57 decision for surgery
