Hi Everyone:

I am going for a job interview in November for a Level I Health Records Technician job which includes coding and abstracting. I have my CCA and am close to my RHIT, but I have never done any behavioral health coding. This position will be with the State of California and is located at a mental health hospital. Any advice on how to get ready for this interview would be appreciated.

Thank you,
Cynthia Alder-Smith, CCA

Look up your Mental Health care Coding Guidelines on CMS and mention those coding qualities that you have excelled in with your schooling. Be confident and make sure they understand you're a team player. Mental Health Care coding is somewhat unique.

I have 7 years with state of CA DMH doing psychiatric billing, review the inpatient psychotherapy codes (90816-90818), admission code 90801, medication management Moo64 and 90862 codes. Psychologists also bill same Psychotherapy codes.

Good luck!

You will also want to keep in mind that almost all of the Mental Health Billing Codes will be changing 1/1/2013.

(Just a heads up)
:)
