We have an urgent care and a family practice under the same tax id#. An insurance company is denying a new patient code for a patient that is establishing care at our family practice because she has been seen at our urgent care facility in the past three years. I thought you could bill a new patient visit if it is with a different specialty/subspecialty??? Please advise??

New Patient Coding

You have to make sure the insurance company has the physicians credentialed as different specialties otherwise they will deny that new patient charge for the family practice provider.
