Scenario: A patient has a Nuclear Medicine Stress Test at a local hospital. A cardiologist from a separate clinic reads the study and charges for these services. The patient then comes into that same cardiologists clinic for the first time on a different day, yet he can only bill for an estabilished patient visit due to the previous reading that he billed for.

Question: Is this the correct billing practice and where can I find supporting documentation to back it up?

Any help is appreciated! Thanks! :)

hope this helps

Why would he charge for an Est pt if he only did the readings of the tests. He should be able to charge a New Pt charge I feel. After all this pt is coming in for the first time.
