If a pt is seen for ankle pain & sent for an MRI, then the pt is seen for the MRI results a week later-would the dx from the MRI be considered a 'new problem' for the medical decision making?

no, it's the same problem...just a more specific, confirmed diagnosis.

Thank you Pam. I thought that was the case...one of my docs believes otherwise. I feel much better about discussing this with him again-it makes it so much easier when there are fellow coders that agree.
