I need a little help...we have patients that are seen by our doctors at the hospital for a consult or maybe even go into surgery. Sometimes the patient comes to the office to see the same doctor after the initial hospital visit but was never seen at the office before. Would that patient be new (never seen at office) or established (seen doctor but at the hospital)????? i am so confused:confused:

CPT defines new patient as one who has had no face to face encounter with the doctor or any doctor under same Tax ID for 3 years. If the Doctor saw them at the hospital but never at the office, would be consider established since there was a recent face to face encounter regardless of the place of service.

hope this helps :)
Louise
