Looking for clarification of the 3 year rule for new vs. established patients. We have a patient last seen 2/3/11 coming in again on 2/3/14. Is this 3 years? Does CPT mean calendar year & if so do they start the count from the day of last service or the day after last service or do they count 365 days? And what about leap years? I would very much appreciate any insight on this.
Thanks so much!

I think because it was not close of business day when the patient came in, you can use established. I am not 100% but that question was asked here before. Try searching the forum.
