I would like to hear from the experts- if an audiologist perform the Otoacoustic Emission Screen tests on the new borns in an Inpatient hospital setting under CPT 92587, the payment is included in DRG payment.
Does the DRG change when the test is not done?

Also, do the audiologist bill for any professional portion of this test?

How do commercial payors process this charge when submitted in a claim?

Any information regarding this test on newborns in a hospital is appreciated.
Thanks

Newborn screenings done in an inpatient hospital setting are included in the DRG payment. Most insurance payers do not cover the services of an independent (non-hospital employed) audiologist performing inpatient audiology services - only in an outpatient setting.

Hope that helps!
