Anyone use newborn codes for greater than one year of age. We follow patients on an outpatient basis who have been in the NICU. They have a lot of problems and we continue to follow them for the problems related to their birth....often until school age. We are being denied by Anthem and Humana and they are changing their edits to allow only 30 days for newborn codes. Any suggestions? thanks.

I have the same problem right now. I have a baby who is 2 weeks past the 28 day rule that was born with an intraventricular hemmorhage and is in for a followup xray. If I can't code it as the newborn code and I code it as 431 is that correct?
