This is the situation I find myself in. Currently the providers I conduct audits for do a well visit for a newborn at 3-5 days, a weight check at 2 weeks, and another well visit at one month. For some reason the providers feel they are entitled to code the the 2 week weight visit as a problem visit although its a weight check only. The reasoning is because the patient is a newborn and newborns are at risk for all types of issues. I've been at odds with them for weeks explaining that if its a weight check only with no identified problems it shouldn't be coded as a problem oriented visit. How are your offices coding newborn only visits?
