Good morning I am hoping someone can help me with this scenario: Twin baby had a multi-month stay, Coding staff advises it is proper to continue the principle dx as a “newborn “ code, Z3831 (twin newborn infant delivered by Cesarean). Infant was more than 29 days old at discharge. How do you code that on a UB?

Please link me to any guidelines for this scenario.

I appreciate you for taking the time to answer this question.

Hi,
Look to Coding Clinic (Vol. 4 No. 2 2017) to confirm it is correct for the attending physician to report the Z38 code for all care in the birth admission even if that admission lasts beyond the neonatal period.
