I have been an edit based only coder for the last 6 yrs. I am desperately looking for a Coder 1 position where i can use what i learned years ago when i got my CPC. I am finding that I am not being chosen for many Coder 1 jobs due to lack of experience. I am having no luck with anyone wanting to take the chance with me despite having 6 yrs of experience. Any suggestions ?

You definitely have experience, but you do have to present it the right way. Are you getting interviews? If not, redo your resume so that it highlights your experience. Are you getting interviews? If you're getting interviews but not getting hired, then you need to think about how you talk about yourself and your experience. If you are not confident in your abilities, then the hiring manager won't be confident either!

This is what my resume says my job duties were for a "billing specialist" position....but I was really doing both CCI edits and E/M coding. I worked in this job for 2 years, and now I work as an OP surgical coder for a huge university health system.
