perforated diverticulitis undergoes sigmoid colectomy, colostomy and small bowel resection 4 days later develops a lower GI bleed due to anastomosis it is treated with transfusions and resloves: Home health is seeing patient for non- healing surgical wound and colostomy teaching. Since the complication has resolved and the patient never left the hospital prior to home health admitting would I just code the non-healing surgical wound?

It depends. Are you coding for the hospital, a physician, or the HHA? The HHA should code the non-healing surgical wound. The doc who treated the bleed would code a colostomy complication. I guess the hospital would code both if the pt was treated for both while in the facility.
