The patient has atherosclerosis of the SFA with a nonhealing heel wound. Dr states clinically the "nonhealing wound" is an ulcer. Does anyone have any documentation to support coding a nonhealing wound as an ulcer?

Under todayswouldclinic.com, a chronic wound, i.e atherosclerotic would be considered an ulcer.

Technically, the definition of an ulcer is an open sore on an external or internal surface of the body, caused by a break in the skin or mucous membrane that fails to heal.
