Our physicians wants to have the new pts come in and have the NP do the chief complaint, HPI, ROS and PFSH part of the note and then he will go in to see the pt and do the physical and medical decision making and it will all be billed under his name. Is this an allowed way to do an office visit? Any help on this would be appreciated.

This is called a shared visit and is allowed except for new patients and consults. A new patient the provider must do all the work and bill using his/her NPI or the NP must do all the work and bill under his/her NPI. This is cover in the MCM for shared encounters or you can look under CR1776
