When billing a subsequent hospital visit by a nurse practitioner is a doctors signature required on each visit? Is anyone having reimbursement issues from payors for hospital services provided by nurse practioners?
 
State requirements

This may depend on your particular state's licensing / credentialling regulations. Some allow the NP to sign on his/her own. Others may require the supervising physician to co-sign.

Additionally, this may be an issue with your hospital's transcription system. Ours requires a co-signature from the supervising MD. It's a pain, but that's what we have to live with. Our NPs/PAs will dictate "I performed this procedure independently, under the general supervision of Dr XXX." This makes it clear that it is the NP or PA who is performing the procedure, not the physician who co-signs.
