Our group employs ACNP's in the hospital setting and we frequently billed shared visits. These ACNP's also perform small procedures such as central lines or art lines. THe physician is supervising them during these procedures directly, but have suggested I bill the procedure under the MD license and not the NP. I cannot locate any specific language at CMS that prohibits billing under MD when they are only the supervising MD, i do find a lot of explanation that "shared" billing only pertains to E/M services, which lead me to believe that billing under the MD name for a procedure they did not personally perform is wrong. I am getting argument from the MD's. Anyone have a good source of information that clearly indicates the rule?
